Volunteer work

Nowadays most people seem to think only about making money and getting a better job. And that's perfectly fine. But sometimes I think that this world that we all share would be a much better place if we all could spare a few hours a month and help other people - your neighbors, your in laws, your kid's school, the local shelter and so on.

I've been working as a volunteer teacher for a few months now and it's great! I have gained so much more from this experience than I've ever done teaching before. Knowing that you're able to help people gives you a deep satisfaction, which is worth much more than money.

Morocco is still a poor country, at least in the rural areas. About 80 % of the women in Morocco don't know how to read or write. Public school is free but you have to buy the books and the material and many families can't afford that, so they don't send their children to school. Everywhere you go you see kids working or begging, because they have to help their families. Some of the kids get into drugs, so they won't feel how hungry and tired they are. Seeing those kids makes me want to cry but my tears won't help them... They need books, material for school, clothes and other basic stuff.

Even in Europe and the US there are kids who suffer and need help. YOU can help and make a difference in a kid's life. Just look around and you'll find someone who needs a helping hand. Reach out and give someone a little of your time.

Remember, no one can help everybody, but everybody can help someone. What have you done today to help the people close to you?
